Big Mamma’s Boy – A cinema date anyone?

Ever met a, cool, calm and collected man in a bar only to wake up the next morning with his mum?…Well I can’t say I have but, Holly Valance, starring as Katie, get’s a crash course in wog relations.

I was lucky enough to be present at the premiere of Big Mamma’s Boy. True to it’s name I’d say it’s a cross between Wog Boy and My Big Fat Greek Wedding, only the characters are all beautiful, successful… just socially retarded.

The story follows a 35 year old real estate bachelor, Rocco (Frank Lotito), and his internal anguish between the love of his life Katie and… his mamma’s lasagna. They always said a man’s heart was tied to his stomach.

Although I wasn’t moved by former Neighbours star, Holly Valance’s performance, I was rather impressed by left fielder, model Pia Miller. Pia, as Maria Mezzapatata, really has you believing that she is the “special package” to set the natural order of wog relations in motion. A far cry from her TV commercial days.

Another main attraction, is actor Osvoldo Maione as Nonno. Like the simpsons have Bart, Big Mamma’s Boy has Nonno, coining one liners that will have you in stitches and in need of a quick expresso to calm the internal organs.

If the mere fact that it is directed by AFI award winner Franco Di Chiera does not persuade you to take your new squeeze out for a cinema date, then perhaps supporting an all australian production …might. Big Mamma’s Boy is a comedy about staying home till your 35, multicultural love and above all Mamma’s cooking. Don’t keep Mamma waiting…

4/5 stars.
